Town Celebrates end of hall's 30-week Revamp
Young and old Bridgwater people united with local dancers, singers and bands to mark completion of the £1.1 million town hall refurbishment.
Families gathered on High and Fore Streets to enjoy groups including Bridgwater Amateur Operatic Society, Bridgwater College Show Choir, the Julia McDonald Dancers and even a balloon race. The free day of celebrations on Sunday, 18th July, celebrated the end of the historic halls 30-week facelift and removal of the scaffolding. A plaque, which will eventually feature in the halls foyer, was also unveiled by Sedgemoor District Council chairman Jane Moreton.
Council spokeswoman Claire Faun said: "After a 30-week project to refurbish the town halls exterior, the scaffolding that has been a feature in the high street for nearly two years has finally disappeared, revealing the building in all its former glory".
The day was organised by the council and cultural partners Bridgwater Chamber of Commerce and the Town council. Other entertainment included a street fair, farmers' market, craft stalls, majorettes, samba band, carnival display, face painting, and the streets were closed for the five hour duration.
