BRIDGWATER COMMUNITY ARTS FESTIVAL
Bridgwater has a broad and colourful culture. To
celebrate this we are staging the fourth Bridgwater Arts Festival. A feast
of arts activity including music, drama, dance and visual arts will be
available in the lead up to and over the weekend. We invite you to come
and enjoy this exciting programme and look forward to welcoming you to
Bridgwater.

Folk Music at Bridgwater Arts Centre
Hilary James and Simon Mayor provide an evening of super Folk music for
all the family. This will include Folk/Classical on Mandolin, Bass and
Guitar.

Somerset Wildlife Trust
The Wildlife Trust is the County’s leading voluntary environmental body
and will be exhibiting in the Angel Place Shopping Centre for the duration
of Somerfest. The Trust has 75 Nature Reserves in Somerset and is vital
to local conservation.

Blake Museum, Blake Street
Meet Mr John Chubb – 18th Century Bridgwater artist extraordinaire and
see some of his unique collection, recently purchased by the museum. Have
your portrait drawn by local artist Dave Thomas. Plus a display of work
from schools participating in the Westonzoyland Battlefield project. Giant
Chess and Snakes & Ladders!

Battle Spectacular and Fayre at Westonzoyland Community Centre
(A372 4 miles east of Bridgwater)
Re-enactment by the Sealed Knot of the Battle of Sedgemoor, 1685 – the
last major battle fought on English soil. Period displays and stalls.
Willow artists Sophie Courtiour and Stefan Jennings at work. Battles at
1.00 pm.

Somerset Brick and Tile Museum
Come and visit Somerset Brick and Tile Museum and see artefacts and memorabilia
that celebrate what was once Bridgwater’s major industry. This craft industry
produced not only bricks and tiles but also decorative features and finials
that amounted to an artform.

Enjoy great music from the Engine Room Café’s DJ and try a Somerfest

The Opening Event
A fantastic cornucopia of local talent will lead the opening ceremony
including Music, Irish Dancing, African Drumming, Choir singing.

East Bridgwater Community Samba Band AND dancers bring the rhythms and
colour of the Rio Carnival to the streets of Bridgwater.

Ascendance
This contemporary Dance Company have worked with pupils from Blake and
Elmwood Schools to create a piece of work based on Diversity the textile
exhibition in Bridgwater Arts Centre’s gallery. Includes performers from

The Engine Room

advice on projects. A free open access where you can do all this and more.
These sessions are designed for the self-sufficient user but we’re always
willing to get you started.
10.30 am – 1 pm. Curious about what goes on in the
Engine Room? Ever wondered what a media centre actually is? This is your
chance to find out with a free guided tour. Every 30 mins until 1 pm.
1 pm – 2 pm. The Engine Room Forum. Help map the
future of the Engine Room. Open to everyone from the local community –
individuals and representatives of organisations – this is an opportunity
to meet staff, explore the work of the media centre and to share your
ideas, comments or suggestions. We look forward to welcoming you. Admission
Free.
2 pm. – 4 pm. Made in Somerset – in the centre’s
studio cinema we will be screening fascinating and entertaining films
made by local filmmakers. Entry is free. Check out the Café notice

“Diversity” Textile Exhibition at Bridgwater Arts Centre
South West Textiles Exhibition exploring diversity in this medium.

Blake Museum
Children in Westonzoyland, Kingsmoor, Middlezoy and Othery Schools have
been involved in workshops featuring artist Julie Douglass and storyteller
David Sebborn of Blake Museum to produce a range of work, including flags
and banners relating to the Monmouth Rebellion. An exhibition of this
will be on display at the Blake Museum on Somerfest weekend. Willow artists
Sophia Courtiour and Stefan Jennings have also worked with schools to
produce ‘Figures from the Rebellion’.
Hamp Campus Arts Week
Bridgwater EAZ has funded over 35 artists to work for a week with the
4 schools in Hamp Ward. This will culminate in performances at the launch
and Bridgwater Arts Centre (see Friday’s programme)
