General Background

RICE has a distinctive and unique range of resources available for helping those most disadvantaged within our society to help them selves.

Built on the many years experience of its senior consultant Dennis Birch, RICE can offer an innovative and dynamic format in tackling some of today’s growing social problems

RICE is a Christian based agency that seeks to serve the community with passion and compassion. At the heart of its activities is to challenge poverty and social injustice by motivating the victims in today’s problem areas to become part of the answer in the regenerating process.

Personnel

Dennis Birch (C.Eng. M.I.Mech.E) Has many years experience as a lecturer, public speaker, youth worker, community development consultant, and board member of a number of Charities.

Activities

There is an increasing demand for working partnerships to be developed to solve local community problems and RICE has been able to facilitate a number of projects bringing together Christian Churches, Urban Councils, Trusts, and local residents. This has been achieved through facilitating the following activities.

  • Youth work including children's holiday clubs

  • Fund raising - private and public sector

  • Mobilising volunteers

  • Skill needs assessment

Portfolios

National Government

1991 - 1995 Rough Sleepers Initiative. Working in partnership with Shaftesbury Society to establish four residential units by converting old mission halls in Bermondsey London. Over 1000 young homeless moved on to financial independence

1998 - 2002 Establishing New Deal for Young People and 25+ Work Based Learning for Adults programmes in London Boroughs of Hackney, Islington, Newham and west country district of Somerset

2002 - Government Office of the South West - European Social Fund

Establishing youth projects in Manchester, Brixton, Greenwich, Ealing, Islington, Hackney, Isle of Wight, Bridgwater, Taunton, Yeovil, High Wycombe, Guernsey, Norwich, Poland, Croatia and Bosnia.
