Prince Maurice Born: 1621, Bohemia
Maurice was the brother of Prince Rupert, and accompanied him to England at the start of the wars. He was a good cavalry soldier, although he allowed his men to loot at the expense of tactical re-engagement, much like his brother. Maurice fought under Rupert at Edgehill, following his brother off the field at an early stage. He was successful at Roundway Down, but was not inspirational. At the 2nd battle of Newbury, though, he successfully defended the royalist rear against an outflanking maneuver. He again took second place under Rupert at Naseby. After the defeat at Naseby, he left the country. |
